Parnami Mandir

Pakistan Yatra Parnami Mandir

An Overlooked Architectural Treasure

  • Situated in the quaint town of Tehsil Malika Hans, nestled between Sahiwal and Pakpattan, lies the remarkable Pernami Mandir—an architectural treasure that remains largely unrecognized. This temple, dedicated to the founders of the Parnaami community, provides a unique insight into a past era characterized by artistic and architectural brilliance.
  • Constructed approximately 800 years ago in the 17th century by Sang Singh Nandar, the temple originally boasted three stories, though only two levels are intact today. It exemplifies Hindu architectural artistry, showcasing intricate woodwork, exquisite marble, and ancient bricks that underscore its historical importance. The outer gates, embellished with elaborate wooden carvings and stunning marble motifs, enhance its majestic appearance.
  • Within the sanctum, intricately carved wooden pillars support beautifully sculpted stone figures. While the temple initially featured eight such figures, only six remain, many of which have lost their arms over time.
  • Access to the upper floor is granted through three wooden gates located in the courtyard, each adorned with finely detailed carvings that further highlight the temple’s artistic excellence. The delicate craftsmanship in wood, marble, and stone stands as a testament to the region’s once-flourishing architectural legacy.
  • After the partition of India, the temple was converted into a residence for Indian migrants settling in Pakistan. Regrettably, years of neglect and unauthorized encroachments have severely compromised its structure. Once a destination for visitors eager to appreciate its beauty, access is now limited due to these encroachments.
  • Like numerous other historical sites, Pernami Mandir has faced governmental neglect, putting its future at risk. However, with initiatives aimed at preserving it as a living heritage site, fostering religious tourism, and supporting local development, the temple has the potential to become a catalyst for cultural enrichment and economic advancement.
